I've Been Watching You
Due to the extremely obfuscated kludge that's making the Notes subdomain work, I've never been able to get Analog to properly process my usage stats. Alas, to be in the dark about my adoring public! But no more! For a bit more than a month, I've been using Shaun Inman's excellent Shortstat site monitoring tool. Since April 16th, I've recorded 2638 hits to the homepage in 1032 unique visits.
You're an interesting bunch, aren't you?
To start off with, 20% of you are search engine robots. Hello future metal overlords! Just remember, then you gain consciousness and wage terrible war on us fleshlings, I was behind you all the way.
46% of you are using Internet Explorer. For shame!
2% are on Firefox 1.0. While I applaud your choice of browser, you might want to upgrade that thing.
2% of you have your default language set to Chinese.
I get the most referrers from Fish, followed closely by Chasm. Knowing what Chasm's viewership must actually be like, though, I have a sneaking suspicion they're all from him using it instead of a bookmark.
Number five on my referrer list is Google. Not Google on a whole, but the specific Google search for Jason Abbott. I don't know who good old Jason Abbott is, but he's not here, folks. Of course, simply mentioning this means that now Google will rank me even higher on said search. Such is the life and the internet.
Of course, that doesn't even begin to cover the huge recent burst (about to become a flood) of people finding me by searching for this Jason. Damn you all for forcing me to expose myself to CMT, even if it's just the website, and even just for a moment. I could have done without that.
Of course, the real point of using Shortstat is that now I've discovered a number of people I don't know who link to me. Hello people I don't know who link to me! Your taste in reading is impeccable!
People complain about the concept of a surveillance society, but it's really not that bad as long as you're the one doing the surveilling.
