Duty Free
And the benefits of being a student just keep piling up. Jury Duty delayed until January.
That said, yes, 320 Jay St, aka 330 Jay St, aka 12 Metrotech Center really is one swanky new courthouse. They even have a handy item-check for those of us who are smart enough to not bring our camera cell-phones (as requested), but stupid enough to forget to not bring our pocketknives.
Really, I do want to serve on a jury. I look forward to it both as a believer in democracy and the modern judicial system, and as an opinionated bastard who likes the idea of his snap judgments on the worth of other people being binding. But not while I'm at school, and when missing a week could jeopardize my graduation. And probably not when I'm working either.
Can we just do this after I retire?

Hmm.
The problem with all the busy working/studying people getting out of jury duty is that it leaves jury duty to the other not-so-working and probably not-so-educated people. And somewhat questions belief in democracy and the modern judicial system.
But then, there's always the chance that one can do it after retirement.
