I have my lovely, lovely D70 for less than a month and Nikon announces the new 10 megapixel D200. Ken Rockwell has a full hands-on preview here. While almost double what I paid for my factory refurb D70, the D200 looks to be one fantastic piece of kit, and fits the gaping void in Nikon's product lineup nicely: It stands above the D70 and below the D2X to compete pretty much directly with the Canon 20D.

I couldn't have afforded this camera even if it was available on shelves when I got the D70. I regret nothing. But still...

Of course, as Mr Rockwell says, "The D200 trumps the Canon 20D in spades, and every time Nikon announces something Canon one-ups them the next week." So expect more expensive geek toys soon.
